Q&A Phones

The Q&A Phones were an interactive public engagement installation created as a playful way for councils and community organisations to collect feedback.

Using a pair of retro telephones, visitors could listen to a question about their local area, community, or a specific consultation topic. A second phone played back audio clips of what other people had said, creating a shared conversation between participants without requiring screens, forms, or formal interviews.

The project was designed to make civic feedback feel more approachable, human, and enjoyable, encouraging people to contribute their thoughts through a familiar and tactile object.
