AR Pocket Shakespeare
Project type
Augmented Reality Pilot / Interactive Theatre Prototype
Date
2021
Location
Online
Pocket Shakespeare was a pilot augmented reality project exploring how virtual actors could bring Shakespeare’s speeches into the real world.
The prototype allowed users to view animated digital performers through a mobile device, with supporting subtitles, paraphrasing and contextual information designed to make the language more accessible. The aim was to test how AR could support theatre, education and interpretation by placing performance directly in the viewer’s space.
Although the project was never publicly released, it served as an experimental proof of concept for using immersive technology to make classic texts feel more immediate, visual and engaging.
